Good day,
I have VX-7R, the lastest mod that being done to mine unit is open up a free band or mars band can't remember. One issue is that I try to communicate with those Motorola Talkabout say T5420 model.. the voice over the walkies is like overmodulated or undermodulated, breaking off in between over certain lenght of QSO.
So any solution to this or anyone experience this?

Did you try operating on all power levels to see which works best?

Yes I did try, even the lowest power of 0.05W contribute same issue. Walkies to VX-7R no issue at all but when VX-7R to Walkies breaking off situation.

emm mod! like me derive what I have done to my VX-7R
1. I open up and remove jumper no.4 which give this radio capable of Free Band 2. Reset the Radio by pressing [4]+Band+V/M and finally [F] for resetting. 3. Before resetting I have record down all the setting in the Factory Alignment Menu 4. After resetting, I check back Factory Alignment Menu to confirm any changes to the power, Max Dev... show no changes.. 5. That's it the mod that I have done...
Changing to different original antenna to SRH999 still the same.
Luckily this radio has quad band... uses the most is VHF amateur band, UHF is only during my outing!

Here is the version I have if it helps.. Remove the battery pack. Remove the sticker/cover seal for the pressure sensing unit (SU-1), in the battery compartment. This is the black strip above cellular warning label and is where the SU-1 option goes. Locate row of eight jumpers. They are numbered. For Mars/Cap, remove solder jumper 5. For Freeband, remove solder jumper 4 and 5. Reset microprocessor. (Press and hold in the 4, band, and v/m keys while turning the radio.

emm it looks like your version basically similiar with mine.. anyway..
is allright, VHF band has wider coverage compare with UHF... matters is that my counterpart for my outing group are not licences holder making me difficult to communicate... that's the story of it...
Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas
