I just bought an FT-60 HT and have a couple questions about accessories.
I've been a CW only op since 1956, and this is my first foray into the world of repeaters and voice, so please bear with my ignorance.
First off, I have seen some software advertised for the FT-60, ADMS-1J, which is advertised as Windows Based CD Software & Serial Computer Interface Cable, which includes: Windows 98, ME, NT, 200 or XP Software & CT-30A (CT-29A + CT-28A = CT-30A) Serial Cable For Programming FT-60R. My question is what does this software do and how would it make my HT use easier?
Second, what kind of speaker would be best in which applications? There are 3 types listed: a speaker mike, an earbud mike, and a VOX mike. Should I get one of these or just use the HT by itself?
Third, there are now available rechargeable alkaline batteries (Lenmar) which put out a full 1.5V unlike the NiCd or NiMH lower voltages. Can these be used in the FBA-25 AA Battery Case since they are not subject to NiCd and NiMH problems?
I'm sure more questions will come up, but that's all I can think of right now.
Thanks in advance for any pointers anyone can give me.

The software enables you to program many freqs in a short time. It is VERY usefull. Earbuds are ok if you don't want anyone listening to your conversation. If you are doing a public service like a race or something, you want people to hear whats going on. DO NOT use the rechargeable batteries. They have a different voltage.73, Frank
