I have had the 8800r for about a month now. I was able to install it in my car. I installed the base under the driver seat and hooked up an external speaker. Ofcourse with the radio unit being under the seat, it was hard to hear when driving on express ways. The external speaker is nice and loud and I placed it in the cubby hole in the arm console. The face of the radio is mounted on the dash where its easy to access and easy to read. I am so pleased with this radio. With 6 programable buttons it makes for easy access to your favorite freqs. This is litterally 2 radios in one. You can moniter 2 channels at once! It has 2 speakers for both sides. It covers your 2 meter and 440 stations. It has all the functions I could ever need including crossband repeater! The microphone I use is the standard Yaesu MH-48A6J DTMF microphone. I have it programmed to my liking. If you program your mic, you will be amazed how much you will save on distraction from the roads. I programmed mine and its great!, espeacially once you get to know where your buttons are without looking or by feel. I would not recommend adding your freqs into this radio by hand (like I did ). Use the software. It does not come with software but you can get good software from G4HFQ on his website. Here is a shot of what it looks like for the 8800r. Very nice program. www.g4hfq.co.uk/8800help/8800%20memories%20screen.png
