Holding a VX-6E (Euro version of R) in each hand, alternately pressing PTT on each, most of the time the transmission will be sent and received instantly. Occasionally there is a 1–2-second gap between Tx on one and Rx on the other.
What could cause this? Varying radio propagation conditions at the time, or more likely to be to do with the hardware itself? Could it just be interference from other sources not strong enough to open the squelch but still blocking my own transmission?
The same thing happens on VHF and UHF, using CTCSS or not.
Any ideas appreciated. Don't be shy with the big words, I understand them, but my practical experience is limited.
